The Grey Robe Monks of St. Benedict

An Ecumenical and Inclusive Benedictine Confederation

A Message from the Abbot

Dear Visitor,

On behalf of the Grey Robe Monks of  St. Benedict,  I bid you greetings and peace.

Our ecumenical order was founded in 2002 in Phoenix, Arizona where we started with a small group of eight men and women inquirers from the Catholic and Lutheran traditions.  This charter community formed the Luz de Cristo Abbey under the jurisdiction of the United Catholic Church and later under the Independent Catholic Church of the West.  Since that time, the Lord has brought us many new individuals in search of monastic spirituality through the Rule of St. Benedict.

Today, we have 160 professed members and oblates in Arizona, California, Georgia, North Carolina, Oregon, and Colorado.  Our professed members are made up of lay and clergy alike.

Our communities place great value on hospitality and charity as directed by our Holy Father Benedict.  We strive to receive everyone with the love of Christ.

As part of our Charter, we are committed to making a difference in the world in which we live.  Thus, all of our communities are heavily involved in social justice and works of mercy to the poor and marginalized members of our society.

Of course, our daily life is centered in prayer, through which our love of God and neighbor flows.

As you explore our site and learn of our monastery without walls, we ask that you pray for us and our ministry.

PAX,

Abbot Terry M. Boyer, OSB
